Asmat & Noni

Asmat & Noni
(Artwork of Ms.Lavinia)

At long last after many years of being in a carefree boyfriend-girlfriend relationship, this particular couple finally tied the knot recently on Sunday, 19th August and had their Majlis Bersanding last Sunday, 26th August. Their Nikah ceremony was not an ordinary one. Since the Groom originates from Kg.Putat and the Bride from Kuala Belait, they decided to have their solemnization in the House of Allah, the holy compound of Masjid Jame Asr'Hassanil Bolkiah in Kiulap.

The Bride wore a white baju fesyen complete with a white head scarf and a white lace veil. On the Night of the Bride's Berbedak Ceremony, she wore a beautiful Cream Songket baju kurung complete with the traditional costume jewellery.

A unique attire and definitely a first, was worn by the wedding couple on their bersanding day. A combination of red and white. The Bride wore a white baju fesyen with bright red beaded flowers with a red veil. Her jewellery consisted of a pink diamond necklace and matching tiara. A bouquet of white roses completed her attire. As for the Groom, he wore a white satin cara melayu with a red sinjang made of songket and a matching dastar. A one of kind design of a wedding attire.

After their photo sessions, the couple retired to their bedroom and changed into another outfit. For their second attire, the couple decided on the theme white & blue where the Groom wore a white outfit consisting of a jacket-like top and trousers. This was completed with his sinjang and Dastar. The Bride on the other hand, wore a plain white baju fesyen consisting of a combination of light and dark blue embroidery around the collar and chains of beads in various shades of blue in the front. The costume jewellery worn by the bride consisted of a white gold necklace and tiara with blue crystals which matched the Dastar Brooch worn by the Groom. The Newly-weds looked absolutely stunning in all their outfits.

Sarah and Hakeem

Hakeem & Sarah

Another Eurasian offspring , Sarah Janin, the daughter of Mohd Janin Bin Erih, former Registrar & Secretary of UBD and currently the Ambassador of Brunei to Russia, tied the knot recently to a young Tutong gentleman, Abdul Hakeem Haji Basir. A former colleague of Sarah's in DST shared with me that it was Sarah's fate to end her job at DST and seek elsewhere for work as it was when Sarah started her new job that these two lovebirds met and fell in love. Definitely a romantic, happily ever after story. Here are a few of their pre-wedding shots at Empire Hotel & Country Club, taken by their official photographer, David Cheok.

On her Nikah Day, the stunning Bride wore a long pure white baju fesyen completed with a simple veil. She wore a diamond necklace and danggling diamond earrings. A modern manner of having a joint Berbedak ceremony was opted by this couple. They both wore matching light green songket complete with the traditional Brunei Malay wedding attire. The Bride wore a dark green songket at her pengapit. Their Bersanding ceremony took place at the Chancellor's Hall at UBD and was decorated beautifully for the King and Queen of the day. The colour theme of the day was Gold. The Groom wore goldish songket and the Bride was dressed in a Gold satin dress with a gold beaded lace baju fesyen. To complete her wedding attire for the day, she wore a gold tiara with diamonds on top of her veil and a gold necklace. Since the Groom originates from Tutong, the Majlis Adat Membasuh Kaki was performed on this day.

Cheh's Wedding

Thanks to a fellow blogger, I was able to borrow a few pictures of Cheh in her different wedding outfits of her Nikah ceremony, Berbedak Ceremony and Bersanding ceremony. The first picture of Cheh being groomed by her make-up artist is a natural candid photo of her and turned out beautifully. For her Majlis Malam Berbedak, Cheh wore the traditional stunning red songket baju kurung complete with the traditional costume jewellery. During her final wedding ceremony, the Bersanding Day, the Bride and her Groom opted to wear a exquisite shade of green. The Groom wore the complete songket attire while the Bride was dressed in a lacey baju fesyen and topped it off with her green veil, a stunning tiara and of course a bouquet of fresh white lillies.

"Selamat Pengantin Baru"

After a very eventful Saturday night of being surrounded by close friends and family, picture sessions and the tinting of Henna, Hajah Lina awoke on Sunday morning, July 29 to experience her Majlis Bersanding. The Bride was groomed by her make-up artist and got dressed into her Bersanding outfit. Her custom-made baby blue and gold songket was designed into a baju fesyen. Her matching shoes were also custom made. Her make-up artist for the day was Haji Yasin. The bride wore her hair up in a twisted curl updo and completed her wedding attire with her waist-length veil and a white gold and diamond tiara. On this particular night, the bride favored a long lilac evening gown which was made of lace and satin. Her make-up for the night was done by Haji Ali. She had her hair set in big curls and finished her hair do with an extraordinary hair band. The groom opted to wear a white shirt, grey tie and a black tailored lounge suit. The banquet for the night was for invited guests only which comprised of family and close friends of the bride and groom. Tables were set up outside and the compound was flooded with colourful decoration lights. Before enjoying the spread of scrumptious dishes, the newly-weds cut the wedding cake and had plentiful of guests eager to have a taste. Towards the end of the lovely evening, the bride and groom danced the night away. Lina and Rizal I (Nikah/Berpacar/Berbedak)

Rizal and Lina

I'm fairly sure that this is going to be a part one and part two post, if not, probably a really long post with plenty of pictures for you to view. A dear friend of mine, Hajah Lina after being engaged for a year, she finally tied the knot to her better half, Rizal@Kit, recently on Friday, July 20. The bride's photographer, upon my recommendation and introduction, was David Cheok and her Videographer was Erwan Said. Throughout all her wedding ceremonies, she had two make-up artistes, the well-known Haji Ali and Haji Yasin.

On her Nikah day, Chapter one of her wedding, she woke up a boundless maiden. She was groomed by experts and was dressed gracefully to finally pledge her commitment to her soulmate, Rizal.

Hajah Lina wore a stunning white Baju Kurung with silver and pink beading. Her outfit was completed with a white headscarf, her waist-length veil and a stunning white gold and diamond tiara. Her brother was her Wali and was pleased to have the honour to give her away on this auspicious occasion. After signing on the dotted line, it was the Groom's turn to pledge his love, say his vows and sign on the dotted line.

Resting for a couple of days, Chapter Two of Hajah Lina's wedding began in the middle of the week starting with her Majlis Malam Berbedak. On that night, I had up close and personal time with the Bride while she got groomed and dressed in our traditional wedding attire. Her custom-made green songket, courtesy of her mother's Kain Tenunan shop, was designed into a baju fesyen with simple green and yellow beading. Her Kain Sapit was yellow in colour which complimented her outfit. Her shoes were also custom-made by her mother's staff. She also wore personally owned jewellery, a gold and ruby necklace as well as gold dangling earrings. The traditional attire she wore was family owned. Instead of the usual 'paper flowers' that is arranged with the head gear, the bride opted for fresh flowers.

Three days later marked Chapter three of the Brides wedding, experiencing the event of Majlis Malam Berpacar. The Bride wore a beautiful Navy Blue Baju Fesyen with exquisite beading and embroidery which was hired from a local bridal boutique. Her hair was set in an elegant curled updo and was topped off with a traditional hair comb or as we call it Cucuk Sangul. Her make-up artiste for the night was Haji Yasin.

A Little Note to Everyone:
Hajah Lina's late father, passed away early this year and it is heart rending that he was not able to be there to give her away and witness his daughters wedding, yet he was in everyones heart and will always be remembered. Al-Fatihah.
