Sheikh Mahmud & Malai Ayla

When both the bride and groom are Arab descendants, it becomes more than just any special occasion. The Bride, Malai Ayla Surya, the groom, Sheikh Mahmud Sufian were united as husband and wife on Friday, March 16, 2007. Their wedding reception was held on Sunday, March 25, 2007 at the Orchid Garden Hotel.

The bride started her Friday morning by getting groomed by a well-known make-up artist in the wedding industry, Ms. Hajah Zaleha for the first ceremony of the day, Majlis Mandi berbedak. The Bride dressed in a white baju kurung, with her torso wrapped in an exquisite blood red jongsarat (traditionally woven material with gold thread), complete with the traditional accessories and headgear, sat in the middle of the room while close relatives, uncles, aunties, granduncles and grandaunts proceeded with the powdering ritual and applying it to the forehead of the bride.

Upon completion of the Mandi Berbedak, the Bride carried on with her preparation for her Solemnization (Nikah) ceremony. She wore a beautiful embroided white lace 'baju fesyen' with her hair in ringlets set to the side. And to top it off, she wore three yellow roses in her hair and of course the final touch, the tiara.

As the bride continued to get ready, friends, cousins, relatives arrived and one by one, came into the room to look at the bride in awe. Amongst the guests was Jenny Malai Ali, one of Kristal FM's popular DJ's and to not mention also, a newly wed. Another public figure was Diana Latip, a local singer.

The bride and groom also celebrated their bersanding ceremony as well as their thanksgiving ceremony at Orchid Garden Hotel.
